{"id":5792,"date":"2012-11-28T16:01:00","date_gmt":"2012-11-28T16:01:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aspree.org\/aus\/?p=5792"},"modified":"2021-08-24T01:21:03","modified_gmt":"2021-08-24T01:21:03","slug":"first-aspree-study-update-for-manningham-locals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aspree.org\/aus\/first-aspree-study-update-for-manningham-locals\/","title":{"rendered":"First ASPREE study update for Manningham locals"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">250 older residents participate in Australia\u2019s largest ever aspirin clinical trial<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p><em><strong>ANNOUNCEMENT<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The ASPREE (<strong>ASP<\/strong>irin in\u00a0<strong>R<\/strong>educing\u00a0<strong>E<\/strong>vents in the<strong>\u00a0E<\/strong>lderly) study \u2013 the largest ever disease prevention aspirin trial to take place in Australia \u2013 is celebrating the participation of 250 Manningham residents who have signed up to the study.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>ASPREE will test whether taking aspirin contributes to the maintenance of good health in later years and help to determine if daily low-dose aspirin should be prescribed to all otherwise healthy people over 70 years of age.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Led by <a href=\"\/aus\/about-us\/funding-and-collaborators\">researchers<\/a> at Monash University in Melbourne and the Berman Center for Outcomes and Clinical Research in the United States, ASPREE has enrolled over 9000 healthy Australians aged 70 years and over to the trial (more than 4000 of these from greater Melbourne and 250 from the Manningham area alone).<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Associate Professor Robyn Woods, <a href=\"\/aus\/about-us\/\">Executive Officer <\/a>of ASPREE says the ongoing participation of the older <a href=\"\/aus\/site-locations\/\">community<\/a> is a vital part of the trial\u2019s research.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>\u201cWe have had a terrific response from our Victorian ASPREE participants who want to contribute to the health of future generation.
