Victoria<\/h2>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\r\n<p><em><strong>ANNOUNCEMENT<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Mildura Mayor Glenn Milne and Councillor Sharyon Peart formally launched\u00a0the ASPREE (<strong>ASP<\/strong>irin in\u00a0<strong>R<\/strong>educing\u00a0<strong>E<\/strong>vents in the\u00a0<strong>E<\/strong>lderly) trial in the regional city yesterday.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>Over 50 ASPREE participants, their family, friends, GPs, practice managers and other interested parties attended the event at the Monash Regional Clinical School in Mildura.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>ASPREE Executive Officer, <a href=\"\/aus\/about-us\/\">A\/Professor Robyn Woods<\/a> was delighted to see many older residents in the town were quick to sign up to be in the clinical trial. \u201cThe response has been fantastic \u2013 one of the best we\u2019ve seen in Australia,\u201d said A\/Prof Woods.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>More than 20 local GPs are registered <a href=\"\/aus\/about-us\/\">associate investigators<\/a> to the trial.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>ASPREE field staff from Melbourne will regularly travel to <a href=\"\/aus\/site-locations\/\">Mildura<\/a> to undertake study visits in the 140 or so healthy older adults who have already enrolled to participate.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>ASPREE was launched at the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.med.monash.edu.au\/srh\/mildura\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Monash Regional Clinical School<\/a>, which places around 30 medical students, ranging from third to fifth year, in the acute hospital centre, general practice and community health settings each year.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n<p>The ASPREE team would like to thank A\/Professor Fiona Wright, Director of the Regional Clinical School in Mildura for the school\u2019s support before, during and following the launch of the trial in north-west
